Michael Barry D.O., Interventional Cardiology
Dr. Michael Barry is a Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. He is the founder of Aloha Cardiology and has been successfully practicing independently since1996. End of March 2019, with profound enthusiasm Southwest Cardiovascular Associates and Aloha Cardiology have joined forces to provide a comprehensive physician network and integrated cardiology, vascular and interventional procedural services that will enhance our communities in the greater Mesa-Gilbert surrounding East Valley area.
Dr. Barry completed his undergraduate studies at Drake University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minored in Physics and Spanish. He then went on to enroll in a genetics PhD program at the University of Iowa before attending the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa (currently Des Moines University). Dr. Barry completed his internship, internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Barry has interest and expertise in multiple areas of cardiology including the performance of coronary angiography and select percutaneous coronary intervention, the interpretation of vascular and cardiac ultrasound studies as well as gated SPECT and coronary CT angiography. However, Dr. Barry derives the greatest professional satisfaction from the exercise of clinical cardiology: accurately diagnosing the nature and severity of disease primarily based on the history and physical examination with limited cardiovascular diagnostic testing.
Dr. Barry feels that clinical cardiology (i.e. diagnosis based on the history and physical examination) is a lost art in modern cardiology. He prides himself in the accuracy of his diagnostic and treatment plans and in the successful minimization of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, as well as the maximization of quality of life, in his patients – in a cost-effective fashion. As such, Dr. Barry employs an integrated and holistic approach in the management of his patients.
In his free time, Dr. Barry enjoys spending time with his family, running, surfing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
